Our History

The Sojourners is the result of a long-time dream of Paul and Peggie Scott. The couple witnessed the needs and struggles of the smaller congregations where they lived and visited while Paul served in the Navy. God planted within their hearts a lingering desire to help these congregations become self-supporting and to equip them to grow the Church in their communities.

Although they didn’t know the specifics of how they would effectively help these congregations, they knew that God was calling them for this purpose. So after Paul retired from the military, they attended Sunset School of Preaching in preparation for their journey. They were then joined by Richard and Georgie Jones and together they began to realize their dream by using their RVs to travel and serve.

After several years in various missions, Paul and Peggie joined Marvin and Linda Hall, as well as others who were interested in serving. They held their first workshop in Weslaco, Texas, and in January 1979, the group adopted their identifying name of National Evangelism With Sojourners.

Through the years, many Sojourners have dedicated their time and finances to develop what is now Camp Bee in Marshall, Texas. This beautiful camp has over 150 RV sites and several meeting facilities. The Sojourners are currently under the oversight of the elders at the Burleson church of Christ.
