FAQS About Sojourners

Just The FAQ's Please

    1. HOW DO I BECOME A SOJOURNER?
      • All prospective Sojourners must complete an application to become a Sojourner. The application is available online. The individual making application will be contacted by the Sojourner office if more information is needed. If assistance is needed to complete the form, contact the Sojourner office.
    2. DO YOU HAVE TO BE RETIRED TO BE A SOJOURNER?
      • Most Sojourners are retired or semi-retired, but it is not a requirement. Being retired allows more time to participate in sojourns.
    3. DO YOU HAVE TO OWN AN RV TO BECOME A SOJOURNER?
      • Yes, owning an RV is required to become a Sojourner. The size or type is up to the individual. When we go on a Sojourn, we stay in our RVs to lessen the burden on the entity we are serving. Some Sojourners choose to live in their RV’s full time, but this is not required.
    4. WHAT ARE THE FINANCIAL COSTS INVOLVED WITH BEING A SOJOURNER?
      • There are no annual membership dues or application fees. However, all Sojourners are expected to support themselves financially while on a sojourn. The cost will vary between sojourns based on location of the sojourn and other such considerations.
    5. WHO DECIDES WHERE YOU WILL GO FOR SOJOURNS?
      • No assignments are given. Sojourners decides each year where they will participate and how many sojourns they chose to participate in. This is normally done during our annual workshops.
    6. WHAT EXACTLY DO YOU DO ON SOJOURNS?
      • All sojourns are considered spiritual in nature meaning they have an evangelistic focus and help with the spiritual growth of the members of the entity. For example, we assist with preaching, teaching, and vacation Bible schools, among other such activities.
A sojourn that focuses on physical assistance involves a variety of physical labor. For example, we may help paint, repair, do landscaping, and other such activities with an entity. There are limitations on the physical activities we can do because of safety considerations.
Instructional sojourns are seminars and workshops covering a variety of topics relative to spiritual growth, congregational growth, family concerns, and other such topics.
Promotional sojourns are held at various brotherhood events. During these events we present information about the Sojourner mission and recruit future Sojourners.
    7. HOW WILL I KNOW WHAT TO DO ON THE SOJOURN?
      • Each sojourn has a qualified and experienced Team Leader and co-Team Leader. These men provide overall management of the project including delegating to each team member duties needed to complete the request.
    8. WHAT IF I DON’T HAVE ANY HANDYMAN SKILLS, LIKE CARPENTRY?
      • There are a variety and levels of skills beyond and including handyman skills needed on every Sojourn. These are performed by men and women as appropriate. Sojourns are a great place to improve skills or to develop new skills. Many of our Sojourners are retired professionals in a wide variety of areas and are eager to teach and assist. If you do have a specific skill, we welcome you to share it with us.
    9. DO YOU HAVE TO DO A CERTAIN NUMBER OF SOJOURNS EACH YEAR?
      • We request Sojourners complete a minimum of one sojourn per year. Most sojourns are two to three weeks long, but some may be shorter or longer depending on the needs of sojourn.
    10. IS IT A REQUIREMENT TO ATTEND SOJOURNER WORKSHOPS?
      • All Sojourners are strongly encouraged to participate in workshops each year; however, attendance is not required. Currently two workshops are planned each year, one in Texas and another in Florida. A third workshop can be scheduled for the western United States as needed. Workshop provides a wonderful opportunity to grow spiritually, enjoy the fellowship of other Sojourners, and to acquire new skills.
    11. WHAT IS CAMP BEE?
      • Camp Bee is the location for the Sojourner Office and a wonderful private RV campground facility for Sojourners. It is in Marshall, Texas approximately 40 miles west of Shreveport, Louisiana.
